ALWAYS BE A GOOD WIFE

^

“Always be a good wife”,

Was always mom’s advice.

“The house should be clean and tidy;

And like the house, you should look nice.”

“Have his dinner on the table

When he gets home from work.

Never let things go undone.

Your duties, never shirk.”

My grandma put in her two cents:

“If you want to keep him home,

Be there when he wants you,

Lest he find the desire to roam.”

Then one summer day it happened,

No harsh words were spoken.

As he left for work, I noticed

On the table was a token.

Sparkling in the sunlight,

Yet dimmed by what he said,

“Don’t cook supper; I’ll be with Jean.”

Our married now, was dead.

The moral of my story is

To follow your own heart.

Following advice from others,

Isn’t the way to start.

So, here I am, now smiling,

With a smile that wouldn’t fade.

My pride intact because, HE LEFT

AND I’M THE ONE WHO STAYED!
