Always and All Ways

Love in 2 Separate Homes

By Ryan Barbin aka “Dirt”Published 10 months ago Updated 10 months ago 1 min read

I’m no longer trying to get over you.

I’ve come to the realization

that my love for you will always be.

And though I miss hearing

about your day to day adventures.

I accept that you no longer choose

to share those parts with me.

And that’s ok.

You will always be the one that I chose.

My favorite color in the spectrum of light.

My favorite song in the playlist.

But that doesn’t mean

I won’t wear other shades

or listen to other genres.

Life goes on and we will both discover

new places, people, and feelings.

The world is full of endless possibilities.

But I will never compare others to you.

I simply cannot.

Someday I know I will find love

again with someone new.

But they will still never be you.

They will never occupy

the same space in my heart.

For you alone hold the keys to that home.

But I know a new and beautiful

home can be built.

One that will house a growing family

and will be filled with love, laughter,

and infinite memories.

And I look forward with open arms,

eyes, heart, and soul to the day

I can lovingly say, “honey, I’m home.”

But i know in this moment

two realities will always exist.

One in which your voice replies,

as I wrap my arms

around you tightly from behind

and hold you for all my life.

And another where the voice

I hear in return is not yours.

But the warmth of love is just as strong.

The colors are quite beautiful.

The sound is oh so sweet.

But it’s not our decor.

It’s not our song.

Just as the sun and moon

will always share the same sky

without ever coming close enough to touch,

I will always love knowing you and I

exist together somewhere

in this separate space and time.

And I will always love you there

just as i still do here and now.

Always and all ways.
