Alteration

We rely on one person to make us happy.

We rely on them so much that we forget everything else.

We start to believe the world revolves around them,

because for once, we are finally happy.

But what we don’t think about is what happens if that person leaves.

We tend to stop all the good things we had going for ourselves

and pick up all the bad habits again.

We became so comfortable having that one person by our side

that we forgot how to stand on our own.

No one told us that love could hurt this badly,

and they definitely didn’t tell us it hurts even more

when you put your all into one person.

Now we sit alone, looking through old pictures and photos,

smiling at how happy we once were.

You think…

What could I have done differently?

And sometimes, that’s not the case at all.

Sometimes you tried everything you could.

You stepped outside your comfort zone.

You changed pieces of yourself just to make them happy.

Instead of altering yourself around them,

let someone alter around you.
