A cycle of first love's wanting, burning, and letting go

You fell in love with me in the bright of spring

Brought me passion in the summer's heat

Began to fade with changing of the autumn leaves

And you were gone by the time of winter’s chill

And like the seasons we cycled through,

I mistook change for something cruel—

but even time will teach the ground

how to let go of what it cannot keep.
