All That Heaven Allows

-

Dusk dusts indigo hues of heaven across the nape of your neck and down your spine.

I can’t help but notice the brightness of your smile

As the warm blue shades prepare the earth for a slumber so sweet

That only the sticky summer wind can relieve it.

And I can’t help but think of how good it would feel to have the cool grass caress my back with a million and five of God’s green little thumbs

And your hand caress my neck as we become one with the night-fallen earth

As the fireflies blanket us in a starlit glow that only two star-crossed lovers can produce.

On a day so hot and heavy, how sinfully sweet it would be to get hot and heavy with you

Against the cool red sheets that know our deepest and darkest secrets as we melt into one

Molded by the heat of the day and of our bodies

As we cascade down to the cool wooden floor
