All I needed was water
Poetry by Florence Susanne
It seems simple, a trip to the grocery store.
You’re in the town you grew up in, you can remember crying in this parking lot a million times.
Heartbreak, heartache, heal your heart all over again.
It seems like an un-extraordinary day, until you see Him.
Well, not Him.
But someone who looks so similar.
You want to die.
Immediately.
Tendrils of panic grips your chest,
your lungs.
Your bladder threatens to release out of pure un-adulterated fear.
You freeze.
It’s not Him, you know it.
But you don’t know it.
His eyes, a brown that silenced you with every piercing glare.
His voice.
You can almost hear him saying,
“You’re mine. You’ll always be mine.”
You almost forgot he existed in the minuscule moments of your every-days.
A car honks at you and yet you can’t move.
“Please for the love of God hit me!”
You think towards the driver that sits in annoyance at your inability to move.
All I needed to get from the store, was water.
