Algorithm of Isolation

A Digital Age Elegy for Human Touch

By Ian SankanPublished about a year ago • 1 min read

We scroll through a thousand faces, bright,

A carnival of pixels—Like, Share, Follow—

Yet ache for a hand to hold in the night,

While hollow hearts beat shallow.

The Wi-Fi hums; the DMs pour,

A flood of emojis, none that weep.

We’ve mapped the stars but still ignore

The strangers lying next to us, asleep.

The cities throb with screens that scream,

But eyes meet glass, not other eyes.

We’ve traded warmth for dopamine,

And wonder why the soul starves, disguised.

The cure won’t trend, won’t load, won’t buffer—

It’s buried in the risk to say:

“I’m lost here too. Let’s face the shudder

Of being real, not just ‘OK.’”
