threads and strings and carousels

broken dreams and wishing wells

princes, thieves and ne'er do wells

casting shadows and magic spells

happenstance as midnight calls

dances with shadows on the walls

reverie when the sandman calls

hope dreams will rescue from the fall

shooting stars and passing glances

beauty marks and second chances

fools still believe in true romances

as salesmen sell rose colored glasses

still banking on those fairytales

to be the wind that moves our sails

while in the mirror our beauty fails

the author forgot those details

when he sold this bill of goods

the ending grand the middle obscured

refusing to grow up and be mature

we ignore the truth, buy the brochure

an easy sale and easy mark

he sold a match without a spark

so we smell sulfur in the dark

listen to dirges in the park

****

waiting for life to be embarked
