Across the Room Eyes Meet

A sonnet for love at first sight

Across the room eyes meet, awareness flares.

Transmitted through the pulse, signals are sent

As hearts squeeze faster and the flesh is lent

A rosy hue, a flush borne of the stares.

A quickening of breaths sent through the air,

And palms that start to sweat without intent,

A reflex, a sign of the sweet torment

Of such naked emotion thus laid bare.

But what is there to say this wordless dance

Reveals anything more than a shared lust?

For the hope spawned by this gaze to take flight

All souls that dream of further rapport must

Learn to cross that room, to take a chance,

And carry faith in true love at first sight.
