About Your Flowers

They sat in a vase

The center of a table,

The table the center

Of a room-

They illuminated

A darkened space

With their bright colors,

Reds, pinks, oranges

A hot rainbow

In the dimly lit area-

Their petals soft

Each one sweeter than

The one beside it,

Each one a reminder

A tally mark

For the times

She had crossed his mind

Throughout the day-

From the morning drive

To the drive back home

A quick stop

Where wildflower grow

Like the thoughts

That spun

Through his mind

In those early days-

Beautiful petals

The symptoms of something

Blooming within the mind-

The tall stem

The reminder of growth-

But the colors have faded

The stem has bent

Drooping over the side

Of a crystal clear vase

Handed down over years

To sit upon the table,

The empty table…

Collecting the falling petals

The dry withered creatures

That turned to dust

When touched by a passing finger,

Trying to find

Where the color has gone.
