We ran
With the freeness
Of our spirit,
Casting off
Humane duties
And relishing in the wild,
Functioning away
From the function
Tied to our bodies
By a civilized society
In a world burning
With the fire
It lit to keep itself
Going-
Burning with the fire
It loathed
With a fierceness primal,
But a fear so distinct
Etched into bones
At birth-
Limiting the escape
Our minds so eagerly
Yearned for,
Until the day we relinquish
The hold other souls
Have over our minds,
Until the day
We throw our gas
To the fire burning
And make it our own
Before learning
How to extinguish
Without imploding-
A careful balance
Too complicated for the simpleton
Who finds peace in their comfort zone
Who balances precariously close
To the burning flames
While believing his drive
Is nothing but inspiration
And dedication
When really it is fear
For one’s life
Keeping him at the time clock
And away from the reality
He wishes to live.
