A Woman's Love

A Goodbye

How to compare the love of a woman?

In pondering I am remiss,

To describe even walls that contain her fair laughter,

Nor the wonder I've found in her kiss.

For the love of a woman I've given my life,

And nothing do I now regret,

Neither pain, nor the tears, not the suffering years,

Nay, only the day that she left.

Love of a woman, where have you gone?

For now I suffer inside,

As my soul fails to mend and I see not the end,

And I'm lost now without you, my bride.

Love of another, I bid you to come,

I fear now of being alone,

Neither friend, nor pretend, but a swift, silent end,

May bring joy to this darkening home.
