A Walk Alone in Falling Sunshine

- in memory of my brother Scott

****

golden leaves float downward

spiraling to soft landings

lightly touched by dribblets of rain

🫶

teardrops stain my heart,

a flattened and squared nucleus

hazel eyes speared by all the

yellow brilliance

bursting burgundy

brazen bronze

Autumn has arrived

again,

her colors blazing as I’m

walking

walking now as the final sibling,

ambling alone.

🌈

me and my brother Scott when I was two years old and he was four and one half years

Author note: I was the youngest of four siblings, with three older brothers, spaced apart by years. The oldest brother was twelve years older, the next, seven, and Scott, the closest in age, was two and one half years older. Sadly, Scott died in late September 2024 in Tampa, FL, after hurricane Helene wrought her damage and right before Milton roared through.
