A Villanelle

My first try at writing a villanelle

Some Beautiful Music From Frank Zappa

This is my first attempt at a villanelle and it isn't technically perfect, but I am happy with it.

In fact, it is not a villanelle at all, but I think it is a worthy poem and hope you do too.

I thought Villanelle sounded familiar. It is the name of the comic book assassin played by the wonderful Jodie Marie Comer in “Killing Eve”. You can read a little more about her here:

The lead music is the unexpectedly beautiful "Sofa #1" by Frank Zappa perfect to read this by.

Villanelle

From the land of dreams we now leave the night

Fingers touching , holding, we meet the day

Our next steps will take us into the light

.

Our day is starting ,a breakfast delight

Together we know we are on our way

The sun is risen , no cloud is in sight

.

Our day is here, we know this is so right

We know the right words, the ones we should say

Seeing the blue sky, our mood now takes flight

.

Each day we are closer, our hearts alight

Working together with you it’s like play

Tomorrow will be better , more delight

.

We are ever improving, words we write

Easy to Keep mundane boredom at bay

Our minds as one find new ways to excite

.

And we end the day, await the night

Our thoughts delight in whatever we may

Together forever living delight

A New Day coming is within our sight
