A wisp of a thought
A ghost of an idea
You were but a specter in my mind,
Conjured from little more than air,
From resolve and desire,
Shaped night after sleepless night.
~~~
You manifested out of the mist,
Taking the form I had given you.
I feared not, for I had summoned you.
Your voice was but a whisper
Only for my lonely ears.
Your touch drew near,
Chilling my body, my lungs.
~~~
Yet, contact was futile,
As love borne from illusion
Is a melancholy aberration,
Nothing more than a dream.
Come dawn, you smiled
and drifted away, free…
A fading decrescendo.
My heart will follow
For eternity.
