A Sonnet For A Summer's Day
Summer's Day Challenge
Vocal have a competition for a summer’s day sonnet. While I am aware of Shakespeare’s sonnets starting with a line like:
“Should I Compare thee to a summer’s day”
In iambic pentameter (ten syllables alternately stressed and unstressed) , then fourteen lines which can take various forms , so I will do four quatrains followed by a couplet but there are lots of combinations that qualify as a sonnet.
So here is my Summer's Day Sonnet:
Should I tell you about my summer’s day?
Sounds through my window of the dawn’s chorus
Night banished by the bright rays of Horus
And the time comes to set me on my way
Sleep gone, the sheets thrown back, I leave my bed
I wash, I shower , I slowly waken
Down to my kitchen , coffee then taken
Preparing breakfast , toaster waits for bread
Out in the sunshine, destination bound
Walking on footpaths, enjoying fresh air
Skipping bus stops, walking all the way there
Birds still singing , I love the ringing sound
This is the story of my summers day
Just one of many, that will come my way
So that is my my sonnet and I suppose we can head it with "Sonnet" by The Verve.
