A smile in the sun

A search for true happiness

The sun is shining

But your heart’s gone numb.

All the emotions fade

It takes all your strength to breathe.

The smile fades

But the sun is still warm.

You can hear but you can’t respond

You just want to run away.

There’s too much noise.

Too much that should get done.

Your so overwhelmed.

From being told what you should do.

Let’s just run away somewhere

They’ll never think to look.

Where we can dance the night away.

Forget all the problems left behind.

We’ll sing to the stars

Until the sun comes up.

Them we can laugh and run away all over again.

The sun’s going down.

I’ve got a hot date.

Looking stunning like I always do.

Anxiety spinning in my mind

Making me second guess every dress.

I can’t decide if these heels make me look too tall.

My make up starts to run.

While I cry for no reason at all.

Let’s just run away, somewhere

They’ll never think to look.

Where we can dance the night away.

Forget all the problems left behind.

We’ll sing to the stars

Until the sun comes up.

Then we can laugh and run away all over again.

The moon is shining tonight.

It’s Two a.m. and I can’t sleep a wink.

Too much on my mind.

Tears start to fall

As all my mistakes wash over me.

I start to drown in my own misery.

Let’s run away, somewhere

They’ll never think to look.

Where we can dance the night away.

Forget all the problems left behind.

We’ll sing to the stars

Until the sun comes up

Then we can laugh and run away all over again.

All that we can do

Is place one heel in front of the other.

Smile and give the demons the fight of their lives.

I struggle every day.

Until I can smile in the sun.
