A Smile For The World

A short poem

A smile doesn’t always mean someone is happy.

There are people that exist in the world as if they didn’t cry themselves to sleep the night before.

As if the previous day wasn’t a blur from waking up numb and navigating the day on autopilot.

You cross paths with these people every day and would have no idea how dark their thoughts really are because of the smile they force on their faces.

But, it’s a smile for the world.

A smile to make sure someone else doesn’t worry.

A smile to make someone else feel seen.

A smile to make someone else’s day better.

A smile to hide the hurt.

A smile to hopefully distract from their eyes as the eyes struggle to hide the pain.

A smile to convince the world that they aren’t crumbling inside.

If you are wearing a smile for the world, I see you.
