I Was Never Afraid Of The Dark
Until it was in my mind
I’ve never really been afraid of the dark.
When the power goes out, you have no choice but to embrace it because it is out of your control.
A house feels bigger when the power goes out.
You may stumble into some furniture but, eventually you will find your way.
This same house is also a lot quieter.
You may lose sight of where you are going but, the silence that coexists is soothing.
The same is true of being awake when it feels like the rest of the world is asleep.
It somehow makes you feel like the tiniest dot on a giant canvas.
There is a stillness when you’re awake as darkness still blankets the sky.
A peacefulness that feels rare and refreshing.
I was never afraid of the dark until it was in my mind.
If your mind represents that house that once felt bigger in the dark, you can no longer feel around for a way through because it’s too crowded.
The stumbling turns into falling and with each fall it becomes harder to get up.
Not seeing a way out becomes terrifying.
Silence is no longer soothing, it’s unsettling.
So you do everything you can to prevent it.
Being awake when the rest of the world sleeps is avoided.
Because that darkness that blankets the sky is a lot less peaceful and a lot less refreshing in your mind.
