A Silver Vow

Love divided, love eternal

I am restless,

flung across galaxies unseen,

drawn toward black holes

that devour even my thoughts;

yet still,

I lift my weary eyes to you.

.

O Moon, if vows could reach you,

I would place mine in your hands.

Our children, the stars,

born of our separation,

burn forever bright in the dark,

etching our story across the sky

I can only dream of touching.

.

You steady me when shadows rise,

you cherish the scars

the world would rather turn from.

With every waxing, every wane,

you return,

reminding me of the promise

I cling to with bated breath

that you will not leave me lost.

.

So I sing to you,

from a heart worn raw,

a whispered prayer cracked by cold air,

a thin, trembling hymn

echoing up from a soul-crushing depth.

And you answer in silence,

your reflected light a song

only I can hear.

.

Hand in hand, though oceans of night divide us,

I walk with you.

In your glow, I lay down

the ruins of my heart,

knowing you will hold them close

because you cannot hold me.

.

And still,

my neck aches from gazing upward,

my thoughts heavy as stone,

pulled by gravity toward what I can’t reach.

Our children dance,

their shining whispers call to me,

but I cannot join them.

not yet.

.

For now,

though earth burns between us,

though distance tears at my soul,

I remain,

forever yours,

forever true,

my Moon.
