A silly verse for Tim Carmichael.

We're gathered here on this warm summer day

to offer a well-deserved toast.

To the man, the myth, the legend,

who cruises the world coast to coast.

Unshackled by the system,

free to live the way he wants.

"Time to write another cookbook or a poem that tragically haunts!"

You'll find Tim at his workspace

in the wee hours of the night,

wrestling stubborn, complex narratives—

feigning sleep is half the fight.

*

But his real love is for the mountains—

Appalachian, proud and true.

At an average elevation of 6000 ft,

acrophobia never grew.

*

Tim forages the land for nuts and berries

on any given day.

Not because he’s bored or frugal,

it's because Walmart is too far away.

*

But distance was never a problem for Tim,

he loves to take very long hikes.

He even challenged the famous Lakeshore Trail

when he could have just used a bike.

*

Raised in a place where his nearest neighbor

was a mile down a dusty dirt road.

He settled for friends like Skippy the raccoon

and a big ole, fat, warty toad.

*

When it comes to music, Tim's got the knack

and considers many songs.

Just never ever mention a track called 'The Fox'—

unless you want to be banned from his home.

*

What else can we say about the writer we know

who has mastered the very art.

I guess we'll wait for his next crowning piece,

and I'm not going to rhyme art with fart.
