A Sight for Bad Grades

A Rewarding Punishment

A window to a future unseen

A SIGHT FOR BAD GRADES

I didn't study for the test,

And so my grade was not the best.

To punish me for lack of attention,

I was dealt, after school detention.

As I stared at the wall,

She walked in, most beautiful of all.

Eyes of emeralds, hair of gold,

A girl with beauty from tales of old.

Her image implanted in my head,

And there she'd stay, to my dread.

Seven years would come and go,

My love growing with each "no".

Several times I was overlooked,

Her day planner was always booked.

Boyfriends would come and go,

While I continued to get a "no".

Still she stayed in my life,

I fantasized of a day she'd be my wife.

But then, she found someone,

And I knew my dreaming was done.

She met someone, and had a baby,

My future with her no longer "maybe".

I wished her well and bid adieu,

I promised, "I'll get over you".

To this day, I think of being with her,

Wish it to be, was, or ever were.
