A Sense of Arrival

*

Grunts and groans bellowed

Of the voice I hold so dear

A darkened tunnel beckons

Contractions fuel my fear

.

A persistent stranger probes

Within my comfort walls

Luring and supportive

Below I hear the calls

.

Centimeters calculated

to gauge my arrival time

Tethered to a rope of which

Has served as my lifeline

.

Urgency now descends

The darkness turned to light

Sensations upon my newborn flesh

To everyone's delight

.

Overwhelmed by human touch

In full bloom are my senses

Oohhs and aahhs throughout the room

I’m lost to my defenses

.

Vision blurred

I search in desperation

Gravitating to the one

Expressing sheer elation

.

Into this harsh environment

I’m destined to explore

I’m laid upon the chest of whom

My eyes simply adore
