A Rose Lay on My Grave

A memory once we shared

A Red Rose Lay on My Grave

The reddest rose lay on my grave

silent tribute no hand to save

its petals weep in quiet rain

a symbol carved from grief and pain

The earth is heavy cold and near

your footsteps fade I cannot hear

no whispered word no final prayer

just shadows lingering in the air

A love once burning now is still

time broke its bond by cruel will

yet in the soil where I remain

the rose remembers love and pain

Your eyes once met my own with fire

now gone are dreams and lost desire

I rest beneath the stone so deep

the rose alone its vigil keeps

The reddest rose lay on my grave

one last embrace you could not save

and though the night may never end

the rose recalls where hearts were friends
