A Rarity in Humanity

A Poem

By A. MarlerPublished about a year ago 1 min read

Decency

Purity

Love

Humanity

How are these things so rare?

A simple act to show you care.

It is preached from church walls,

It is taught in school halls,

Yet it has become increasingly rare.

Has human decency simply been forgotten,

When acts of kindness should be quite common?

The definition of it all has become so muddied.

What does it really mean with opinions unstudied?

The louder they yell, the deafer they are.

They constantly expect others to raise the bar.

No one is listening.

No one can hear.

Everyone is blind to the kindness so near.

Let's return to the basic purity of humanity,

Turn away from the temptation of do-gooder vanity.

Do it for them.

Do it for you.

Do it for God,

Then it's real and true.

All are equal in His eyes,

Even if so many shake their head and denies.

What right have you to treat others as less?

We are all different, and mostly a mess.

It's time to reach out and do a small thing!

You don't need to commit to everything.

Just take a step, just one is fine.

You'll find yourself taking more every time.

Spread the light in this world so others can see,

That decency being rare really shouldn't be.
