After the wedding, after the celebration,
We ride home in silence,
Our world is different now,
Our daughter is married, she has a wife,
Our world never made room for this event.
Her path of choice we were taught was wrong,
Her happiness we don’t understand,
But her happiness we now will defend,
There is no less love for this daughter of ours,
We stand firm in our parental roles.
No love doesn’t change because of the choices children make,
We love them no matter the path they take,
Are we right, is she wrong? It is not a matter to dwell on,
God gave us rules, this is true,
But in the end, it is the heart God judges, it is how He said it would be.
So much in this world is askew from the heavenly plan,
What God allows or doesn’t is not for me to know,
Of all the many things that are good and right,
To love is the greatest of them all,
No judgement, no condemnation, just love, love like God, that’s all.
