A Mother Who Writes

How does a mother find time to write?

My hair is never that neat, and neither is my house.(Image by Ketut Subiyanto from Pexels.)

I would love to sit down to write, sure,

but first I have to get the laundry started.

I would love to take a few minutes to plot,

but we are out of milk and I don’t know why nobody told me yesterday when I had to go to the store (no, I don’t drink milk so how would I know that?)

I also have to pick up granola, the only thing one of my children eats for breakfast.

She is going through a tough time now and is having trouble eating,

so I can’t just tell her to eat something else.

I don’t know what to cook for dinner,

but I know the next 3 titles of the essays I want to write.

I know my house is a mess, I probably should at least vacuum it.

But do tell me do people really dust every week?

Really? (chewing on my pencil absentmindedly)

I also have form after form to sign, sometimes I don’t know what I’m signing for.

I would much rather sign my own book, but I haven’t written any books (Yet.)

If only I could read a few pages of the books I took out from the library,

the late fees are piling up, and I don’t know why I keep borrowing more (right now I have 8 and that does not include audiobooks.)

I have this story I wanted to write for my children when they were young,

now they are teenagers and the story is still in its infancy stage.

Maybe I can write a little tomorrow,

but wait,

I have to volunteer at my child’s school. ( Darn.)

The preschool has started its summer break and my youngest is home with me every day now and what she likes to do is talkstalkstalkstalkstalkstalkstalkstalkstalkstalks

right beside me.

Or she said Mommy look at me every 3 seconds in a rapid-fire way.

My brain is so tired at the end of the day after being the emotional support or the dumping ground for 4 young human beings,

and you know the constant interruptions,

or you have to put out fire everywhere like a freaking fireman

because if you didn’t the whole house is coming down.

There are so many unfinished sentences in my drafts,

because, mama duty calls, y’all.

It would be a dream to be able to

sit down in a quiet, isolated room,

put on — — — — — -
