A Man and His Dog
A poem I’ve written for a friend that’s long gone.
As if it were clear to me, the day I would’ve seen your white coat of blizzard glory,
Within the middle caramel splotches painting the canvas of innocence and playfulness,
I’ll miss our walks we used to take around the park and around the lake.
With the happiness we used to share now replaced with sadness and endless tears,
As the leash sits idly by, now never to occupy our time,
As the memories still remain of the man and his dog to this very day.
As I am but a shell of the man I used to be in this haunted ghost town of bargaining,
As when you left it took a part of me,
As my heart was hit by waves of denial and pain,
Wishing I could just have that one last walk today.
