A Love Long Overdue

To the child within

I’m sorry that you had to grow fast

And stand too tall with your feeble feet

That you had to do it all alone

And maintain that smile as long as you can

~

That you started filling the void as young as you were

And thinking that it was a norm to do so

That you never felt beautiful

And pretend to be okay with it

~

You weren’t supposed to go through it all

You were supposed to be cared for

To be loved

To be supported,

To be lifted towards the sky and open your arms

To be heard even with your funny remarks

To simply be a child

~

Feeling the ground as you run freely

Creating a mess to feed your curiosity

Now, I may have grown in today’s world

But I know you’re still searching in our realm

I can feel it

I know how you feel

For I am you.

~

From now on I’ll take care of you

I’ll remind you how proud I am of you

I’ll make you feel loved

I’ll tell you that you have a shoulder to lean on

I’ll whisper to you that “you are enough”

You lack nothing

I’ll make you feel beautiful

~

Because it’s your essence

Together, we’ll explore this world with wonder in our eyes

Together, we’ll tread this highway of life

You and I, growing and exploring

You and I, living and loving

And growing old together

“Healing the inner child is remembering that it’s okay to feel deeply, to play, to rest, and to seek love.” — Unknown
