A Heart Beats for Me Inside a Brick Wall

I can’t reach it no matter how I try

A Heart Beats for Me Inside a Brick Wall

Stone upon stone they carefully laid,
Each weathered block another barricade.
Some were built from whispered lies,
Others born from tear-filled eyes.
A few were placed by hands unknown,
Leaving a fragile heart alone.

From the outside, nothing could be seen,
Only roughened edges standing between
The world that judged with hurried sight
And a soul still searching for the light.
Cold grey stones, silent and tall,
Guarding a heart behind the wall.

People passed without a glance,
Never giving love a chance.
“They’re distant,” many softly said,
“They’ve forgotten how to be led.”
Yet no one heard the quiet beat,
Still steady, patient and complete.

Every brick carried its own name…
Loss…
Heartbreak…
Sorrow…
Shame…
Disappointment settled like morning frost,
Covering dreams once thought lost.

Some stones were heavy with old regrets,
Others held unanswered debts.
One was carved by childhood fears,
Another soaked in countless tears.
Layer by layer the fortress grew,
Until hardly a single flower ever flew.

But hearts are stubborn little things.
Even caged, they dream with wings.
Deep beneath that hardened shell,
Where silent hopes still gently dwell,
A rhythm echoed soft and true…
“I’m still alive…
I’m waiting for you.”

Spring arrived one quiet day,
Without announcing its gentle way.
A tiny seed found one small crack,
Refusing ever to turn back.
Its tender roots began to climb,
Patiently measuring passing time.

The rain became a faithful friend,
Teaching broken things to mend.
The wind whispered songs unseen,
Threading hope where pain had been.
Even sunlight found a space,
To softly kiss that hidden place.

One brick loosened.

Then another.

Not by force…
Not by anger…
Not by demands shouted aloud…
But through kindness,
Gentleness,
Understanding…
And someone choosing to stay.

The wall remembered it was never built
To imprison forever.
It had only stood
Until healing arrived.

Soon ivy wrapped the ageing stone,
Turning loneliness into home.
Wildflowers coloured every seam,
Just as life had always dreamed.
The cold grey wall still proudly stood,
Yet now it sheltered something good.

If ever you meet a heart concealed
Behind defences never healed,
Do not mistake silence for stone,
Or believe they’re better left alone.
For hidden where no eyes can see,
Love still longs to simply be.

Every wall has one weak place.
Every soul deserves some grace.
Every heartbeat softly calls,
Even from behind the tallest walls.

Perhaps the greatest miracle of all
Is not tearing down the wall…
But becoming the reason
A heart dares to open the gate.
