A Guide Sent To Help A Poet Do Well
You were not sent fire, or thunder, or fear,
only a steady face that does not flinch.
It says, write what stays after the noise,
and trust the weight of what you already know.
Do not chase the moment while it is loud,
let it walk away and leave its mark.
What remains will tell you the truth,
that is the line worth keeping.
Listen longer than you speak on the page,
silence teaches rhythm without trying.
Words arrive when they feel respected,
not when they are dragged into light.
You are not here to impress the room,
you are here to recognise yourself.
If a line feels honest in your chest,
it will find its reader in time.
Pain does not need decoration to matter,
joy does not need permission to appear.
Write them as they come to you,
plain handed, steady, and unashamed.
This guide does not rush your hand,
it watches how you hold the pen.
Craft grows from patience, not hunger,
and meaning deepens when you wait.
When doubt circles like a familiar voice,
thank it, then keep going anyway.
Every poet walks with it beside them,
only the brave keep writing through.
You were guided here, not pushed,
because your voice already knows the way.
Write as if you are answering that face,
calm, awake, and entirely your own.
You were not sent fire, or thunder, or fear,
only a steady face that does not flinch.
It says, write what stays after the noise,
and trust the weight of what you already know.
Do not chase the moment while it is loud,
let it walk away and leave its mark.
