A GREAT WIND OF PEACE

Let a great wind of peace blow over this earth,
And teach all mankind what a life is worth.
Let hatred fall silent, let cruelty cease,
And cover this world in a blanket of peace.

No buttons to press, no missiles to fly,
No frightened young children looking up at the sky.
No mothers left crying beside an empty bed,
No more innocent blood on the battlefield shed.

What we need is peace, not threats from above,
What we need is kindness, compassion and love.
We don’t want murder, we don’t want war,
We want a world worth living for.

Let the powerful listen to the people who cry,
Who don’t want their children sent somewhere to die.
For no crown or country, no fortune or throne,
Is worth one poor mother being left all alone.

Put nuclear threats in a coffin of stone,
And bury them deep where no hatred is grown.
Let the weapons fall silent, let the armies stand down,
Let peace be the jewel in humanity’s crown.

No ill winds of hatred, no wishes denied,
No frightened young soldiers with nowhere to hide.
No cities in ashes, no oceans of tears,
No children growing up surrounded by fears.

Let a great wind of peace sweep over the land,
Let enemies meet with an outstretched hand.
Let forgiveness replace all the anger and pain,
And teach this old world how to love once again.

For the earth doesn’t belong to the powerful few,
It belongs to the many, to me and to you.
To the children unborn, to the old and the young,
To every small voice whose song is unsung.

And if I could make just one wish before I depart,
I’d send it to heaven, straight out of my heart.
Let no mother bury her child anymore,
Let mankind remember what life is worth living for.

So blow, gentle wind, through each country and sea,
Bring the gift of tomorrow to humanity.
And when my last breath leaves this body of mine,
Let me know that the world I am leaving is kind.

For peace is not weakness, and love is not shame,
And no life on this earth is a pawn in war’s game.
Let the whole world awaken, let hatred be dead,
And let every last threat of nuclear war be put to bed.
