i've become a black hole,
a stardust glutton gorging myself
on crumbs of praise
floating in rings around dead planets and
obsolete satellites posing as suns.
i.consume.it.all.
with gustatory glee
shoveling every morsel into my oblivion–
the pain
the drudgery
the fake smiles
the jealousy
the dreams and what-ifs,
my appetite is end l e s s
*
and then i sense it...
chum in the water, subtle at first,
an inky depth brushing along my ragged periphery
with a ravenous hunger set to devour,
and i recognize you for what you are.
oh how your vastness matches my own
your cravings a mirror to mine
but our damage is unwilling to bow.
the heavens weep as we collide,
both broken and bruised,
misguided in our lust for dominance.
even the stars burn with shame, eye witness to
the suffering on these celestial battlegrounds.
yet as we roil and rage,
the darkness starts to bleed away bit by bit,
ribbons of hurt and neglect unraveling
to expose our tattered souls
beaten but still a spark within.
for a moment there is such profound stillness,
no past, just the now stretching in every direction as we lie bare,
and it does not end in destruction.
your grief begins to heal me.
each rift and wound filled with understanding
molding me into something altogether transformed
as I'm mending you in tandem
until we're an amalgamation
radiating brilliance through our scars,
forged anew in a crucible of salvation.
because together,
we are supernova.
