I met the world outside the womb

And in my heart I felt the beat

Took off my shoes and walked with whom?

A little squirrel next to my feet

He said, ‘have you, much to eat’?

I gave him nuts and mulberry

Then we took off down the street

And he took out a machete

*

I was shocked, so I grabbed my broom

Then he smiled and acted sweet

That’s when, I knew, he had more room

For food, in those chubby cheeks

‘You will be nice, no deceit’?

Those hands were bloody hairy

‘I promise to pay you in treats’

And he took out a machete

*

Thats when his friends starts to loom

Hanging down the tree they meet

Like a chain they swung to whom?

Into me, knocked down, fold my feet

All scratched, how bloody neat

These squirrels a hairy scary

I mock, ‘pay you back in treats’

And he took out a machete

**

‘Okay, I will give up my spoon’

This time I did not cheat

‘Please give me back my broom’

And in my heart I felt the beat
