A Father Of Mine

Do you remember that day in the same way?

After a swim in the springs of Al Ain

you happened to lay on a bed of grass,

skin hot and body weighed down,

with lidded eyes, you lay below the clear blue sky

with a rare content smile.

I sat by you and you patted the grass,

gesturing me to lay by you and soak in the sunrise

The only moment I felt wanted by you,

We were side by side for the first time,

the wind even seemed to rejoice with happiness—

as it touched our soft cheeks with an even softer kiss.

The warmth of the sun on our bronzed faces was that of an inviting one.

Our blood never felt so thick, we even breathed in unison

Oh father of mine—

I never wanted to leave your side but to mine you were gone

before we could even gaze upon the dawn.

This memory of mine will always be only mine.

But from time to time,

I wonder, dearest father,

Do you remember this day in the same way as I?
