A Driven Heart

Searching for Its Prize

What of love, need, and desire?
Hopes, dreams, and wishes longed for?
Reality leaves these longings mired
For all that we wish and dream
Dies out and burns to ash in fire

Lifetimes spent in pursuit
Of love and belonging
The pain of loneliness, acute
Our need for love drives some to madness
Yet even in rejection, the heart is resolute

Love is awarded to the tenacious
Those who aren’t broken or defeated
To those souls who resist giving up
As long as a heart’s desire burns to find love
It will not concede while it’s still beating.
