A Dream Deferred

The version not written by a defeatist crone

What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it make fruit

like a flower in the sun?

Or crystallize like quartz

when rocks run?

Does it hint like winking eyes?

Or buy a huge ad campaign--

to whet and tantalize?

Maybe it just docks

like a boat unrowed.

Or is it a road?

(Note: this poem was originally written with 52 words. However, Vocal required 100 words for this poem to be submitted for the "After it's Gone" challenge. The author has added this note to allow the poem to be submitted, and also to protest the word minimum for a poetry contest, which the author feels is an inappropriate restriction of poetic expression.)
