She's a Paradox
Her instinct is fierce as the fire
That ignites the reckless fool
Who dares menace her young
She protects

With delicate touch that comforts
A smile as warm as the morning sun
And voice as calm as a flowing brook
She soothes
*
With a strength born of a past
That did anything but soothe
But taught her right from wrong
She teaches
*
With power arisen from weakness
An obsession with proving her worth
Refusing to accept defeat
She fights
*
She fights, even with those held dearest
And gives no thought to inflicted pain
She’s never wrong
She never compromises
*
Her skin is scarred and leathered
Her tongue sharp and scaled
But her heart is a delicate weave of fondness and devotion
She’s a paradox
*
She cries, she laughs
She hates, she loves
She hurts, she protects
She’s a dragon with butterfly wings

INTRODUCTION Prompted: #3 is over and done with. There were a total of 7 entries for this challenge, just like with Prompted #2. That was a bit surprising, considering this was a poetry challenge.
