We stand under the branches

swept away on the breeze

Creating new stanzas

about the strength of the trees

Contemplating the future

we keep planting new seeds

The dominant rulers

of the land of the free

**

We stand under the branches

seeking shade and protection

While playing with matches

show our vile degradation

For the value of life

and our place in its station

Pruning new growth with dull knives

in a show of protection

**

We stand under the branches

shouting of the beauty we see

Building our mansions

from the wood of the tree

Taking what we will

all the while building defences

from those trees that fulfilled

in covering our expenses

**

We stand under the branches

taking credit unearned

Singing songs, dancing dances

countless lessons unlearned

When we take all the credit

and dismiss the power around us

All that is left to inherit

is our ruin and mistrust

**

So when we stand under the branches

amidst the strength it provides

Rising up from the ashes

and the fall of our pride

May we seek to be better

in this world we are part of

Building a stronghold together

with a foundation of love
