For but a moment
In its final breath
It could become just like them
The stars it envied so.
This meteorite,
Which found itself
Through all its seasons
Unexceptional
Craggy, rocky exterior,
Yet brilliantly bejeweled inside,
Would burn brighter than any star in the sky
On its final descent.
Tearing through the atmosphere,
Shining, Sparkling,
Trading it all for this
A breathtaking, blazing final act.
All of the pressure
The weight of its journey
In the inevitable impact
When it shatters against the Earth
Even then, fragmented,
It smiles, unforgotten,
As even in its place of rest,
It is just as coveted
As the stars it envied so.
