If life is a cloud

then, death is the rain

Falling like a shroud

over ash in a grave

Searching for a flame

or a spark to get started

Maybe someone to blame

cause my heart is retardent

Denying the fire

resisting the spark

Redesigning the pyre

befriending the dark

Burning my soul

like a hot cup of coffee

Claiming control

my ember the trophy

Hissing and popping

an incinerated spirit

White hot and glowing

but never getting near it

An unquenchable need

to peel the scorched

The spark is the seed

my willingness, torched

Smouldering ash

now unable to combust

Remnants of a match

as cinders crumble to dust

The smoke is the witness

the haze tells the story

Baptized by the flame

an eternal grail, holy

Still life hides within

waiting to break the ground

So, no matter what's been

renewed beauty is found
