9/25 Will Always Be Dolly Day
A Ghazal For Dolly Day
Introduction
In the USA, it is 9/25 2026, and that day is Dolly Day. We sadly lost Dolly one month ago, but her spirit stays with us, encouraging us to be good and care for others.
I could have shared "9 to 5" as the song, but decided on "I Will Always Love You"
Dolly Parton earned roughly $10 million in royalties during the 1990s from Whitney Houstonβs iconic 1992 cover of βI Will Always Love Youβ. [

Song Ownership: Dolly Parton wrote the song in 1973 and kept the publishing rights, meaning she made money every time Whitney Houstonβs version played on the radio, sold on albums, or was used in the film The Bodyguard.
The Investment: Parton used a large portion of those royalties to buy a commercial property and office complex in a predominantly Black neighborhood in Nashville, Tennessee.
The Tribute: Parton famously referred to the property as "the house that Whitney built" because she felt it was a great way to honor Houston's success and support the community.
