A Tribute to George Floyd and 99 others.
6’46”
May 25 you’re still alive
You don’t realize you’re gonna die
It’s been tough these past few months
But a pack of cigs gives you some incentive to survive
A counterfeit 20 isn’t money
But you work a job where the currency can get a little funny
You may have had a bill that didn’t pass the grill and now?
911 is not a joke
Why did you stay?
Why didn’t you drive away?
Why did you have to be embroiled in the fray?
Because if you had left your family wouldn’t be bereft
You could’ve received a stimulus check
But now you are dead since an officer with a plan
To pump you full of lead took a knee to your neck instead
And his only regret is that he didn’t get away with it.
Some men want to watch the world burn down
While others work to fan the flames
How can you kneel on another for so long
And understand their pain?
Five against one is overdone
And it’s that’s protocol, that’s insane
Serve and protect in Minneapolis translates to
Taking a life in vain
We march, we sing, we do our thing
But will our antiquated tactics produce anything?
We chant slogans Get Seth Rogan’s support, but to what end?
We need things to change, we cannot just pretend
Megaphones are fine but where do we draw the line?
If we don’t learn from history we’ll repeat it everytime
How about stop killing black people for being black?
Some men want to watch the world burn down
While others work to fan the flames
How can you kneel on another for so long
And understand their pain?
Five against one is overdone
And it’s that’s protocol, that’s insane
Serve and protect in Minneapolis translates to
Taking a life in vain
I said it 30 years ago, but nobody cared
Paradigm shifts are legit It’s time that I shared
We must change what we think
Truth or dare
Forget about the consequences
We’re already there
In this age of incredulity
Don’t give in to despair
Fight for what is right
It’s only fair
This is everyone’s cross to bear
If you were so righteous
You’d be sitting in that chair
Some men want to watch the world burn down
While others work to fan the flames
How can you kneel on another for so long
And not understand their pain?
Five against one is overdone
And it’s that’s protocol, that’s insane
Serve and protect in Minneapolis translates to
Taking a life in vain
If silence is violence
Then what is a shout?
What do we really want
What’s this movement about all about?
Justice for the slain
Say every name
It’s gone on for too long
And we are all to blame
How do we progress?
Education is key
But they keep changing the locks
To thwart our opportunity
We hear the knocks but we cannot answer
We need brand new doors to combat this cancer
Wake up Listen up Speak up a better 3
Mankind, you need to get yourself free
What if we love each other even when we disagree?
Imagine the possibilities!
Some men want to watch the world burn down
While others work to fan the flames
How can you kneel on another for so long
And understand their pain?
Five against one is overdone
And it’s that’s protocol, that’s insane
Serve and protect in Minneapolis translates to
Taking a life in vain
