70s Were the Best

If only I could turn back the years and time

70s Were the Best

The needle drops with a heavy click,

Vinyl spins a velvet groove,

Lava lamps glow orange and thick,

While bell-bottoms start to move.

Static hums on the walnut set,

The dial turns to find the show,

Pola-colors, we won't forget,

The warmth of an analog glow.

Gas was short but the road was long,

In a van with a shaggy rug,

Screaming out a 70’s song,

Giving the world a shrug.

The smell of patchouli in the breeze,

Sun-bleached hair and a denim vest,

Life was lived with a reckless ease,

In a time that beat the rest.

Skates are laced at the neon rink,

Discoballs fracture the light,

No time to pause, no time to think,

Just staying alive through the night.

Polaroids develop in the palm,

A ghost appearing through the haze,

A summer of grit, a summer of calm,

Lost in a sepia-toned maze.

No glowing screens to steal the eye,

Just the streetlights and the bike,

Chasing the moon across the sky,

Doing exactly what we like.

The decade fades like a worn-out tape,

Hissing soft at the final turn,

A golden dream, a Great Escape,

A fire that continues to burn.
