10 Years of Us

An ending

10 years of us

ended tonight

Softly, quietly

And all at once

Like a snowflake landing on forest moss

Or a feather languorously touching down

The last vestiges of us trickling

Draining into the period of our life sentence.

We were gentle as us

With each other

We were shelter in storms

A warm embrace in an unforgiving winter.

We built out chambers

In one another’s heart spaces

Places to rest and restore

Where wounds could heal

And souls could mend.

We were beautiful together

And shaped each other

Into better versions of ourselves.

We are beautiful apart now too.

Our puzzle was almost complete

But we never could find

All of the pieces

We couldn’t complete the masterpiece

As this iteration of us.

It was close though, wasn’t it?

We were close.

The love ever lasts

Even as the journey changes

Even as branching paths are taken

As the story unfolds with “I”’s

Instead of “we”’s

You will always have your chamber

And I am eternally grateful

For 10 years of us.

About the Creator

Megara

To become immersed in such rich, vivid stories where we are taken to new lands on extravagant adventures with imperfect and heroic friends is a particularly potent kind of magic. I am here for it always!
