From the drafts

Today I gave away 5 minutes of your voice

In exchange for the pens you got mad at me for obsessing over

Yesterday I carelessly spent 20 minutes of your voice

It was my ticket into the art shows you never wanted to go to

Tomorrow I will spend 15 mins of your voice to visit all the museums you promised to take me to see

I will enjoy the sweet view of emotions on canvas

without having to hear

“You ready yet”

spending your voice until I have an empty wallet

visiting my friends in another state with your voice

Going to see the other side of the world with your voice.

I will drown in the empty wallet that once held so tightly to your voice

But without your voice

I am free”

-This poem was written in a workshop class held by one of button poetry’s authors some years back. She asked us to use something aside from money as currency I used my ex partners voice. It felt cathartic to write this one. At the time it felt so fresh. So freeing in many ways. I had just started throwing myself into my writing and poetry specifically and felt I was getting zero attention from the one person I wanted it from at that time. Along with that I just felt a one sided feeling of all the places I would love to go to but hated all the reasons not to or I couldn’t. Always being rushed out the stores. I feel this is unfortunately relatable. I’ve delt with a personality like that a few times in my life. People who are in such a rush they forget about the small moments that matter. I found this poem and just felt like sharing it. Maybe it will inspire you to write your own similar poem. What would you spend? How would you spend it!? I hope you enjoyed this read. It’s just a rough draft. 🖤
