Welcome to our .Nalee is our chubby sassy 11 year old tabby cat. She is quite the looker. In fact her name in Thai means “beautiful face”. This meaning fits her very well. However she hasn’t always been the beautiful, chubby and sassy cat she is today.

When we first met Nalee she was lost in the apartment complex we lived in. My daughter Laura picked her up and brought her over to the end of the building where we lived and showed her which door was ours. She told Nalee that if she needed us then to go to that very door. The next morning we opened the front door and there Nalee was sitting as if she were waiting for us. She started meowing so we let her come inside. Shortly after we realized she was very hungry and we gave her some salmon. She loved it.

During this time we shared our concerns for her as she did not behave like a stray cat and we knew her owner might be missing her. So my daughter went to her friends that were playing outside and asked them if anyone had a missing a cat. After asking around for a while one of her friends came forward and admitted that Nalee was hers and that she ran away from home. The reason she ran away was because two other cats and two big dogs were eating all the food. So poor Nalee left her home in search of some food to eat. We were very concerned for her situation and prayed that something good would happen for Nalee and it did.

Approximately two months later Nalee's owners were moving out of their apartment. They remembered how much we cared about Nalee and asked me if we would like to keep her as part of our family. It only took me a moment to decide and of course the answer was yes! They then told me that Nalee was not doing very well. If we had not wanted her they would have dropped her off at the animal shelter where they would probably put her to sleep due to her poor condition. It did not matter to us how bad her condition was. We wanted to care for her.

I wanted to see her right away in order to understand the condition she was in. So they brought her out to us. I was in shock. She was so skinny you could see her rib cage through her dirty, scruffy fur. It was obvious to us she was starving and malnutritioned. However her spirit was good and you could tell she was happy to see us. We took her home and fed her more salmon which once again she loved it. She ferociously gobbled up half a large can of it. At that time Nalee was 1 years old and she only weighed about four pounds. With some time and lots of fatty salmon she was able to put on two pounds. A healthy weight for a young, small female cat is about eight to ten pounds.

She was so very small. We knew we had a challenge on our hands to bring her to good health. So for a while we bought her enriched cat foods and continued to give her salmon which is high in omega 3 fatty acids. Before too long she put on weight and gained three more pounds. She is now a very healthy ten pounds! She is the most perfect part of our family. She is a sweet and loving companion. Sometimes I think she is thanking us for rescuing her and giving her a good life.

Tip: Cats love pumpkin. Mixing salmon and pumpkin is a special treat for them and good for their digestion.
