Dogs pee. That's just how they work. And until they make a dog that doesn't, you're going to have to walk your furry friend or let it out in the backyard to go busy-busy. Sometimes, or a lot of times if you're unlucky, dogs will go bananas all over your hardwood floor or rugs. Don't worry, though, because this is hardly a problem! And if you are worried, I dunno, talk to somebody. Don't be afraid to reach out for help. It's not that hard get rid of dog urine smell.

Fresh Pee-Pee

You followed the complete guide to adopting a dog and now it's time to follow the complete guide to cleaning up canine juicy couture. Get that wet spot when it's fresh! Blot as much of it as you can with a clean towel; run like lightning! You don't want to live in a pee-pee soaked heck hole! Next, dilute the spot with some water. Do this fast! Speed is key when trying to get rid of dog urine smell.

Don't take a break to read a book or make an Instagram story! This next step is crucial: sprinkle a few tablespoons of baking soda to neutralize the odor. Spread the baking soda as evenly as mustard on a pee-pee sandwich. Don't go hog-wild with the baking soda; no more than .25 cups. Leave it overnight and vacuum the next day.

Carpet and Fabric

Sure, there are 15 dog Instagrams you need in your life. But what about all the doggy au jus that gets left on carpet or fabric? Easy peasy doggy pee-pee! Apply water to dilute the stain without haste! You may have to alternate between blotting and drying. Blot blot; dry dry! Don't ask questions; just do it!

Next, apply an enzyme-based carpet cleaner like Nature’s Miracle or Angry Orange. They're going to break down the molecules in urine that make things smell bad. Test on a small, hidden area first so that you don't accidentally ruin whatever you're cleaning. Apply the enzyme-based carpet cleaner more liberally than when the Democrats controlled both the House and the Senate with Obama in the White House. Make this the single payer healthcare of cleaner application! Let stand for five to ten minutes; blot dry. That should get rid of dog urine smell.

If the smell remains, launder with cool water. Air dry to avoid shrinkage. If your dog peed on the carpet, then you may have to replace the rug pad. Synthetic rug pads absorb odor so efficiently you'd think they were in cahoots with the doggy pee-pee.

Hardwood Floors

Good thing you're not cleaning up a mess one of the biggest cats in the world left on your hardwood floor. It's just some pee. Also, #HumbleBrag that you have hardwood floors. Quick! Mix water and white vinegar in equal parts. Use a cup or spray bottle. Rub the concoction into the stain aggressively with a soft sponge. Let sit for five to ten minutes. Then wipe with a clean, dry towel. You can also put down some tablespoons of baking soda and let sit overnight.

You can give your floor a hydrogen peroxide facial too if that didn't get rid of dog urine smell. Use three precent hydrogen peroxide to saturate a clean facecloth or hand towel. Let the hand towel sit for two to three hours on where the dog went spizoo. Wipe with a clean towel.

If you're shouting, "Out damn spot; out!" to no avail at your hardwood floor then you may have to sand it. Unless it's parquet; then just buy a new square! Otherwise, you can rent a buffer or use some sandpaper and apply lacquer. If it looks bad, just put a rug over it!

UV Flashlight

Use a UV flashlight to find your dog's fluids. Don't be distracted by any of your own fluids or that of your family! It's not time to focus on that. Once you've found the scent's source, get to work! Work fast to get rid of dog urine smell.

Underlying Causes

Make sure your dog doesn't have any underlying health or behavioral problems. Dogs are such good friends to people that it's heartbreaking when they're in pain. And they often conceal their pain until it's too late. Hopefully you just got home late, but even then a lot of dogs will abstain from peeing until you get home. Try walking your doggo more if it's a recurring issue. Or use a repellent spray. Your dog's health is more important than knowing how to get rid of dog urine smell effectively.

Carpet Cleaners

You can likely rent one of those Robby the Robot looking thingamajigs at a local business. Or just buy one outright to take care of recurring odors or just to clean your carpet. But don't use a steam cleaner! They only make it harder to get rid of dog urine smell. The heat worsens rather than removes pet odors.

Avoid bleach and ammonia!

Bleach doesn't get rid of bad smells (it disinfects), but it is harmful to breathe. Don't bother with ammonia. Dog urine already has ammonia in it; double ammonia smells twice as bad! And don't you dare combine ammonia or bleach. The combination is deadly, so you might get rid of yourself rather than get rid of dog urine smell. And while all dogs go to heaven, who knows about you?!

Apple Cider Vinegar

If the item doused in doggy diddle can be laundered, do it with apple cider vinegar. The vinegar will get rid of dog urine smell while also encouraging your dog not to have a pee-pee party in the same area again. Win/win! No more shame-filled doggy faces. Although, studies have shown the look of shame on a dog's face is actually just a response to the owner's response. This was tested by yelling at a bunch of dogs. I know, but it was for science! Here, let the Dog of Song wash away your grief and guilt.

HEPA Filters

Ozone generators have questionable efficacy, have danger built into their premise (releasing Ozone is not a great idea!), and fail to live up to EPA standards. HEPA filters, meanwhile, do meet specific EPA guidelines. And some of them come with activated carbon, which improves its efficacy as a way to get rid of dog urine smell.

Get used to it.

Hey, sometimes that's just the way the doggy piddles, ya know? It's a dog eat dog pee world out there and we're just living in it. If aliens landed, they'd think dogs were in charge because we clean up after them! What's the deal with dogplane food? And why don't they make the whole dog out of the black box?! The dog eats better than I do....you get it. You love your dog; you won't always be able to get rid of dog urine smell, so get used to the urine odor.
