When it comes to pets, there is no definite method to label an animal as "exotic."Exotic pets were once thought of as wild animals kept in captivity. The concept, however, has been broadened to now encompass any animal that was not bred to be domesticated and live in a home. Exotic animal species include:

Amphibians: African Clawed Frogs, Dwarf Clawed Frogs, Fire Bellied Toads, and Northern Leopard Frogs are among the species that make ideal pets.

Birds: Many birds, such as finches and cockatiels, are tamed, but others, such as African grey parrots, Amazons, canary wing bees, cockatoos, and lories, are regarded as exotic.

Arachnids and insects: The most popular breeds adopted are scorpions, tarantulas, praying mantises, and hissing cockroaches.

Reptiles: Anoles, Bearded Dragons, Burmese Pythons, Ornate Box Turtles, and Chinese Water Dragons are among the species of reptiles.

Rodents: Despite having a common appearance, several of these pets are nonetheless regarded as unusual.Rats, mice, gerbils, prairie dogs, ferrets, and chinchillas are among the pets that many families adopt.

What qualifies as a pet animal? For instance, we are aware that some snakes are kept as pets while others exist in the wild. A pet differs from an animal that lives in the wild in a few specific ways.

  • Dependent on Humans to Survive - A pet requires its owner's provision of food, water, and shelter. Given that it is domesticated, the animal is entirely dependent on its caretaker.
  • Lives in a house- A pet lives in a home . Some pets, including hamsters and parakeets, are kept in cages. As an alternative, dogs and cats are free to roam throughout a house and may even have a bed of their own.
  • Needs Veterinary Care - Pets need care from a veterinarian. Depending on the type of pet, different types of healthcare are required. A beagle and an iguana require entirely different kinds of pet care!
  • Some pets can be trained- For example, during an obedience training programme, a dog can learn how to sit, stay, and heel.Parrots can be trained to talk and some cats can be trained by humans to do tricks.
  • Devoted to its owner - Pets are frequently very devoted to their owners. Over time, they might build trust with their owner. Some animals even want to be with their owners 24/7!
