WHY APPRAISAL IS NECESSARY THROUGHOUT YOUR LIFE

ESSENCE OF EVALUATION

INTRODUCTION:

It is important for everybody to be appraised or evaluated during life journey, because it gives the opportunity to everybody to know about his or her status; what other people think and feel about you, whether you are a good or bad man in the community, what are your capacities and performance standards in jobs, education, social circles, and behaviour to people in relationship. It is an instrument to measure you periodically to help you improve and develop yourself and being guided to reforms or changes in your life. It keeps you abreast and confidence with situations and circumstances to ensure you live up to expectations and not live in doubts as to what may become of you in the future.

There are four main areas of appraising people that is very key to their success or failure;

1. CHARACTER AND CONDUCT

Generally, the person behaviour to a large extent provides for some personal assessments of people’s character and the level of discipline he or she constitutes in the eyes of others. A person who has not accept corrections from the parents, elders, in the workplace or other quarters is quick to demonstrate indiscipline in words and action at public gathering causing confusion or upsets to the crowd or audience.

But a person who is conscious about his or her character or behaviour ensures he or she put up the best character and behaviour to protect his or her reputation in the gathering and society in general.

2. EDUCATION AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT

Everybody must have the privileged and provided the opportunity to be educated because that makes you important and useful in the society, because without giving any inputs into the development and advance of the community or society. There is absolute need to acquire knowledge and ideas to improve your capacities and competencies for personal development geared towards your future aspiration and status in life. You are being appraised from the home, the school, the college, the University, Workplace and finally by God to account for your religious life in the world.

3. BUSINESS PERFORMANCE

Every engaged person whether doing business or employed by other persons or business institution is given or assigned specific duties and responsibilities for a given period of time, therefore the need to conduct assessment or evaluation of the individuals and businesses is key to ensure high level of performance, efficiencies and maximum output in consideration to ensure profitability of the businesses, whether as a private businessman, public enterprises or company.

4. SOCIAL AND RELIGION

It is true that everybody in one way or the other is associated with cultural and religious beliefs for better interaction with people in their communities or society that bring them together. Most people are reluctant to disassociate themselves from their culture or religious beliefs due to tribal affiliation or parental background. Some people are enticed by civilization and educational developments decide to accept change on moral and cultural grounds to suit their status.

Religiously, people observe and practice their religion according to the Bible or Quran doctrines therefore as progress with beliefs and habits they are being appraised in the sight of God as they comply and obey the word of God in thoughts, words and deeds.

5. REASONS APPRAISAL IS NECESSARY?

1. Its gives the opportunity for improvement and development of your life as a means to correct mistakes, guide your undertakings and provide for advancement in career or business.

2. It motivates and stimulates hard-work, proficiency and discipline to success

3. It enhances self control and eradicates weakness, build confidence in the right direction

4. It provides for frank discussion on critical issues to evaluate successes and failures, identifies challenges and methods or strategies or solutions to solve problems.

5. It evaluates employees’ employers’ and businesses performance and conduct and plans for the future.

6. COST BENEFIT OF APPRAISAL

1. It improves employees’ and business performance to enhance profitability in business.

2. It ensures adequate and effective management, monitoring and supervision of responsibilities in the execution of assigned tasks.

3. It identifies potential leaders on succession plan in an organization for continue quality leadership.

4. It reduces laziness and provides for effective use of management time in a business environment.

5. It encourages cordial working and strong business relationship.

6. It recognizes and motivate efficiency, loyalty, commitment and impartiality in business
